APPROVAL has been granted to convert an office block in St Helens town centre into flats
Liverpool-based developers Luxor Group submitted proposals for three studios and 15 new apartments at the site on the corner of Claughton Street and Barrow Street back in March.
Currently there are several businesses on the ground floor of the four-storey building, with the first floor and above listed for office use.
The proposals are for the conversion of the first, second and third stories of the building.
Luxor purchased Claughton House in 2017, following the group’s acquisition of the former Tyrers department store which has been turned into luxury apartments called Nicholson Lofts.
Paul Nicholson, managing director of Luxor Group, said in March that the 18 apartments will provide “luxury living space at an affordable price”, and make a positive contribution to the area.
Under the proposed plans, the upper floors of the 16,000 sq ft building would become three studios, along with 13 one-bedroom and two two-bedroom apartments.
The ground floor commercial units are fully occupied with Keith Park Solicitors, Lemon Tree Café and Classy Cuts.
The application has been approved by St Helens Council under General Permitted Development as prior approval was not needed.
Workmen are now on-site.
No objections have been raised regarding the plans.
The proposed new development will be known as Nicholson House.
